The problem this category addresses
A standard monofocal lens gives excellent, sharp vision at one distance — usually set for distance vision — but has a fairly shallow depth of focus around that single point. - Track record. Some designs have been available longer and have a larger body of published clinical data behind them, having been among the earliest lenses to define this category. Others are newer, with less long-term data published so far — not necessarily worse, but less established.

- Optical design targets. Small differences in spherical aberration targets between models create modest trade-offs between contrast sensitivity and the amount of intermediate-range extension — one model might lean slightly more toward preserving contrast, another slightly more toward range.
None of these differences make one model universally "better" — they represent different design choices, and which one is well suited to a given patient depends on that patient's eyes and priorities, not on marketing claims.
What this means for patients
The enhanced monofocal category as a whole occupies a genuinely useful middle ground: a meaningful step up in functional range from a standard monofocal, without taking on the higher likelihood of halos and lower contrast that can come with more aggressive multifocal or trifocal designs. But "enhanced monofocal" describes a category, not a single product, and the specific model that makes sense for you depends heavily on what your clinic offers and how much experience your surgeon has implanting it.
Rather than asking for a specific brand by name based on something you've read online, it's more useful to ask your surgeon directly which enhanced monofocal option or options they offer, why they'd recommend one over a standard monofocal or a more advanced lens for your eyes specifically, and what their own experience has been with the model they're proposing.
