IOL Adviser ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how you can control it.

Who we are

IOL Adviser is a patient-guidance platform operated by Oleksii Sologub as an individual (not a registered company). Contact for any privacy matter: oleksii@iol-adviser.com.

What we collect

  • IOL Questionnaire responses — your email address, age, your answers to the seven visual-priority questions, your self-reported and IP-derived country, and the recommended IOL category we show you. Unlike a purely anonymous quiz, we do link your questionnaire answers to your email address so we can send you your result and, if you've opted in, follow up with related educational content.
  • Questionnaire consent — because your answers and the resulting category may support health-related inferences, we ask for explicit consent to process them to provide the result and improve the educational tool. Marketing email consent is separate and optional.
  • Approximate location — we look up your country and city from your IP address on our server when you submit the questionnaire. We do not request your device's precise GPS location.
  • Consultation requests — name, email, and anything you share when booking or preparing for a paid educational consultation, including payment confirmation details if you pay via PayPal (we never see or store your card/PayPal login credentials — PayPal handles that directly).
  • Paid guide orders — the buyer name used to personalize the cover and licence line on each page, delivery email, guide language, PayPal transaction reference, payment status, licence code, link expiry and download count. We use these data only to verify, personalize, securely deliver, support and account for the purchase. A generated customer PDF is stored outside the public website and is scheduled for deletion after its 7-day download link expires.
  • Basic anonymous audience measurement — the site counts page views and selected actions such as opening the questionnaire or clicking the guide or consultation link. It also records coarse page-load, time-on-page and maximum-scroll ranges. These counts are stored only in daily/hourly aggregates by page, broad referral category, language, coarse device/browser/screen category and action. This layer has no visitor or session identifier and does not store your IP address, full referral URL, search query, exact timing or scroll value, form answers or button text in the analytics database.
  • Optional detailed first-party journey — only after you choose “Allow detailed journey,” the site records page paths, content group, referral/UTM campaign and funnel events during the visit. A random session identifier is stored in your browser session and converted to a one-way hash before database storage. This is pseudonymous rather than directly identifying. Neither analytics layer includes names, email addresses, questionnaire answers, diagnoses or other medical information. The data stays in the IOL Adviser database hosted by Hostinger and is not sent to Google Analytics.
  • Browser storage — we store your analytics choice and any basic-measurement opt-out locally so the site can respect them. If you allow the detailed journey, a temporary random identifier is stored for the current browser session.

We do not collect government ID numbers or payment card details through this site. If you choose to share personal medical history during a consultation, that information is used only for that consultation and is not published or shared with third parties without your explicit consent.

Health-related information can be sensitive personal data. We process information you voluntarily provide for a consultation only with your explicit consent and only to prepare for and deliver that educational consultation. You may withdraw that consent by contacting us; withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before it. Please share only what is necessary and do not paste full medical records into the booking form.

Why we collect it (legal basis)

  • To provide the questionnaire result and consultation services you request.
  • To process questionnaire answers and possible health-related inferences, based on your explicit consent, to provide the result and improve the educational tool. Optional marketing email requires a separate consent.
  • To process health-related information that you voluntarily provide for a consultation, based on your explicit consent.
  • To send you your questionnaire result by email, and — only if you tick the opt-in checkbox on the questionnaire — occasional related educational content. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any such email or by contacting us.
  • To understand strictly aggregated site usage through limited first-party audience measurement. It is configured within the Spanish Data Protection Agency's audience-measurement exemption criteria and used only by IOL Adviser to operate and improve this site.
  • To understand a pseudonymous sequence of pages during one visit only when you consent to the optional detailed journey.

How long we keep it

We retain questionnaire responses (including the email address linked to them) for up to 3 years from submission so we can review response patterns to improve the questionnaire itself. We send follow-up educational email only if you separately opted in. Anonymous audience aggregates and pseudonymous detailed-journey events are retained for up to 13 months. Responses are then deleted unless you've since booked a consultation. A personalized paid-guide PDF is scheduled for deletion when its 7-day download period ends; purchase, licence and delivery records are kept only as long as needed for support, fraud prevention and legal or accounting obligations. Consultation data is likewise kept only as long as necessary. You can ask us to delete data earlier where retention is not legally required — see "Your rights" below.

Your rights

Regardless of where you are located, you may contact us to request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your personal data, or to withdraw consent to marketing emails. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, these are your rights under GDPR specifically. To exercise them, email oleksii@iol-adviser.com — we will respond within a reasonable time.

Third parties

We use third-party services to run this site: Hostinger (web hosting and the database that stores first-party analytics) and — for paid guides and consultations — PayPal (payment processing). We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share individually identifiable data with clinics or IOL manufacturers without your explicit, separate consent.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
