Monofocal IOL

Based on your answers, the best IOL option for you will be a monofocal lens.

A monofocal lens is an IOL that provides only one fixed distance of vision without glasses. Monofocal lenses are normally calculated for far vision, so glasses will be needed for intermediate and near tasks. Based on patient preference, a monofocal lens can instead be calculated for near vision, in which case glasses will be needed for distance vision.

You have selected the following answers in the IOL selection questionnaire:

Detailed explanation of this option

Please keep in mind that glasses will be essential for you — the specific type and situations will depend on your visual needs and the activity you're doing at a given time. In many cases, the glasses-use experience with a monofocal lens will not be similar to what you may know with your natural crystalline lens, since a monofocal IOL does not provide any amount of accommodation. This means that if your monofocal lens is calculated for far vision, you'll have good distance visual acuity, acceptable intermediate vision for non-demanding tasks, and poor near vision. If your monofocal lens is calculated for near vision instead, you'll have good near vision at about 30–40cm, but acceptable intermediate and poor distance vision. To improve either far or near vision you will need dedicated glasses for that distance.

Quality of vision with a monofocal lens also depends on the lens material and quality, its optical asphericity, and its light-filtering properties. See the IOL Options section for more detail.
