Monofocal IOL — near-intermediate monovision

Your answers point to a near-to-intermediate monovision target, not automatically to one specific IOL type.

That target can be created with standard monofocal lenses, but modern enhanced monofocal or selected EDOF lenses may provide a broader usable range with a smaller difference between the eyes. Before accepting a plan that intentionally gives up unaided distance vision, ask whether mini- or micro-monovision with one of these newer categories could preserve more distance while still covering your intermediate and near priorities.

Please keep in mind that glasses will be essential for far vision in this case. Your combined (bilateral) vision will be good for near and intermediate work, but if you compare the vision in your left and right eye individually, you'll notice they're different — that's expected. Your brain combines the image from both eyes to create good overall visual acuity, though you may notice some difficulty with depth perception (stereopsis) for fine near work. Please discuss with your doctor whether it's possible to simulate this type of vision before surgery.

Do not choose the lens category from this questionnaire alone

Ask your surgeon to compare standard monofocal, enhanced monofocal and suitable EDOF strategies — including the expected distance vision, the difference planned between the eyes and whether a contact-lens simulation is meaningful. You can also discuss these trade-offs with me before the second-eye target is finalized.
