Full Range of Vision

Based on your answers, the best option for you will be a Full Range of Vision lens.

Full Range of Vision lenses combine a wide variety of designs — multifocal bifocal, multifocal trifocal, and hybrid models that combine true EDOF technology with basic multifocal technology. These lenses can have different working distances for near vision and different visual acuity at intermediate range. As a category, they provide good distance and good near vision (typically 33–40cm depending on the model) and good intermediate vision (around 60–80cm); however, bifocal designs do not provide good intermediate vision by design, so demanding intermediate tasks may still need glasses.

Detailed explanation of this option

The general idea of this lens category is to give full spectacle independence from near to far. Some models, such as bifocal designs, won't provide good intermediate vision around 60–100cm by design — modern trifocal or hybrid designs generally provide the best overall visual freedom across far, intermediate, and near.

This lens type aims to provide a visual experience similar to a young, healthy eye in good lighting conditions; however, vision quality in dim light or at night may vary. Full Range of Vision lenses provide great spectacle independence, safety, and visual freedom, but depending on the lens's optical principles, your vision in dim light or night driving may involve some compromises. This is inherent to the pseudoaccommodation principle used to provide that extra visual freedom — it isn't a lens defect.

There's no way to guarantee 100% that you'll never need glasses with a full-range lens, due to the nature of the technology. However, if the lens model is properly selected for your individual needs and your residual refraction and astigmatism are targeted precisely after implantation, your chances of needing glasses become very low.

A note on your answers: you indicated that you're not an especially easy-going person, and that you might be a perfectionist in some situations. Practical experience shows that patients with this kind of personality can sometimes feel unhappy during the neuroadaptation period, or underestimate the trade-offs of premium IOL technologies. If you decide to go ahead with this lens type, please make sure you're emotionally prepared to accept some imperfections in your vision — temporary or permanent — in exchange for greater freedom from glasses.

Because this category combines a wide variety of different technologies, visual experience can vary between specific lens models. See the IOL Options section for more detail.
